Getting started
Setting up your vault
On first launch, Krypta asks you to create a 6-digit PIN. That PIN unlocks your vault — there’s no email, account, or sign-up. Choose something you’ll remember but others can’t guess, then start adding files from your gallery, the camera, the document scanner, or as a secure note.
Adding and viewing files
Tap the + button to import photos, videos, audio, and documents, capture straight from the camera, scan a paper document into a PDF, or write a secure note. Open any item to view it inside the app — Krypta decrypts it to a private cache that is wiped automatically when the vault locks.
PIN & access
I forgot my PIN
Krypta is zero-knowledge: your PIN protects the encryption key, and we never store the PIN or the key anywhere. That means there is no way for us to reset it. If you previously enabled backup, reinstall the app and restore using your backup PIN or recovery phrase. Without a backup, a forgotten PIN means the vault cannot be opened.
Changing your PIN
In Settings → Change PIN. Changing your PIN only re-wraps the master key — your files are not re-encrypted, so it’s instant even for a large vault.
Decoy PIN
You can set a second PIN that opens a separate, harmless decoy vault. The two vaults are indistinguishable from the outside, so a decoy can be shown under pressure without revealing that a real vault exists.
Backup & restore
Turning on backup
In Settings → Backup, choose how to protect it: your PIN (simplest) or an advanced recovery phrase (strongest). Krypta encrypts a single archive on your device and uploads it to a hidden app-only folder in your own Google Drive. Google only ever stores ciphertext.
Restoring on a new phone
Install Krypta, choose Restore, and sign in to the same Google account (or pick your backup file). Krypta detects how the backup was protected and asks for the matching backup PIN or recovery phrase, then lets you set a new unlock PIN for the new device.
Where’s my recovery phrase?
If you chose the recovery-phrase method, you can re-view it any time under Settings → Backup → View recovery phrase. Store it somewhere safe and private — anyone with it (plus your backup file) could restore your vault.
Privacy & data
What leaves my device?
Nothing, unless you enable Google Drive backup — and then only an already-encrypted archive, sent to your own Drive. Krypta has no servers, accounts, analytics, ads, or trackers. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Uninstalling the app
Uninstalling deletes all on-device Krypta data, including the device key. Encrypted files then become permanently unrecoverable, so enable backup first if you might reinstall.
Still stuck? Email chenna.kiran1@gmail.com with your device model and Android version, and a description of what happened. Never include your PIN or recovery phrase in a message — no one from Krypta will ever ask for them.
